Star Wars Arcade gets fan made mini-me, weeps tears of joy (video)

Image

Arcade fan (and genius) Le Chuck got up one morning and thought "Why not build a perfect replica of Atari's Star Wars Arcade, at 1:6 scale?" The result is this amazing 12-inch cabinet with a fully working Atari-yoke, handmade from aluminum and a pair of potentiometers. Tucked inside the box is a modded Caanoo running MAME4all, which has been tweaked to boot straight into the game when activated. The whole project took him over 80 hours to put together, but we think it was time very well spent. If you want to see the thing in action (and sing along to the 8-bit version of the theme) then head on past the break.

This Avatar Android Will Perform Life-Threatening Work on the ISS [Video]

There are certain areas of the International Space Station that most astronauts would rather not visit—like the exterior. But sometimes, somebody has to clamber around out there, looking for hull cracks. That's when the ISS calls on Russia's SAR-400 telepresence assist-droid. More »

Never, Ever Promote From Within

promotion-posterMy father, Alfred ?Bud? Weiss, owned a car dealership ? ?Bud?s Cadillacs? of Miami, Florida. When I?d drop by the office, he would usually pepper me with bits of business wisdom, but as a kid, I wasn?t very receptive. My head was usually buried in a comic book, only half listening. However, there was one story that stuck with me and I have struggled to make sense out of it throughout my business career: ?Son, you never, ever promote your best salesperson to be the sales manager. This is a classic mistake that other car dealers make. A bunch of my top producers came from their failed attempts as sales managers at other places. You commit two wrongs with these promotions: First, you take your top producer ? someone raking in two to five times the average salesperson ? off the sales floor. Second, you put them in a new job that they are totally unqualified to do successfully. This usually ends in disaster for everyone involved.?

Unlike ?Thermonuclear? Steve Jobs, Apple CEO Tim Cook Says He?d Rather Settle Litigation

thermonuclearLooks like Tim Cook doesn't quite want to go as "thermonuclear" on rival phone makers as Apple founder Steve Jobs did. Cook didn't sound so eager to pursue patent infringement suits against Samsung, Motorola and HTC on today's quarterly earnings call. "I'd highly prefer to settle versus battle," Cook said. "But you know the key thing that's very important is that Apple doesn't become the developer to the world." He added very pointedly, "I?ve always hated litigation. We need people to invent their own stuff." His words are at odds with what iconic Apple founder Steve Jobs in Walter Isaacson's biography:
