Darlene Kirkpatrick started writing because it was an inexpensive hobby. ?Now, in addition to working on several novels, she has created a forum that helps others with their own writing works, hosts fun round robin writing, has over 8 writing coaches available, publishing prep help, and more.

2. What products/services do you provide?
round robin stories, writing coaches, publishing preparation help

3. What do you love about your business?
The melting pot of imagination that people bring to the site

4. What do you dislike about your business?
bots. I spend a lot of time insuring the forum is a family safe place to play and blocking bots is a big part of that

5. Do you hire outside help to do the things you dislike, or do you plan to hire somebody?
We have a volunteer staff. We will probably stay with fully volunteer for as long as it works.
7a-7p every day, we have moderators on the site keeping it family friendly. They are all volunteers.

6. What were your start-up costs, and how did you acquire those funds?
Start up was not bad. I already had the original domain from a previous project, so hosting and continuing the registration was low cost. Advertising was a little expensive, though.
We took a little out of each check from a day job

7. What do you wish you knew when you started that you now know?
multiple web design languages, more volunteers

8. What is the best business advice you can give, or have you received?
Love what you do and go for it?worst case senario, it?s an expensive hobby

9. What is the most important thing to know about your business?
budget. passwords. lol seriously, though, budgeting is very important.

10. Marketing and advertising tips?
talk to everyone! Everyone is a potential client. Always be on. Be professional in every interaction.

11. Essential equipment?
pot of coffee and patience

12. Where do you plan to take your business next?
I?ve got the set up the way I want it. Now, I?d like to see more people discover us and come play!

13. Why do you do this business? (Who do you serve, how does your business contribute to society, is it your passion?)
For many years, I was a writing coach helping elderly people write their life stories. It was work I was passionate about. This is an extention of that.
If nothing else, I have a blast taking my turns on the stories and I get to read some great books before they are out while I proofread and edit them in preparation for publishing.

14. Anything else you would like to add?
Write Rotation
A forum for fun writing and serious, too. Round robin stories. Writing coaches. Memoirs help. Publishing prep help. Advertising for authors.
